Anyone have any thoughts on a 1930s R&C? The general impression I get from earlier posts is that older R&C horns are low quality; but does this judgement extend to horns of this vintage?

Hey hey! Yeah its a shame, i have gathered the same about the older R&Cs from the forum. Yet I have recently acquired a 1940s silver plated R&C alto and i find it incredible :D . The tone is sooooo mellow and full and as soon as i played it it just felt right! Used it in a funk gig two days after getting it and it was awesome. If mine is any thing to go by then it should be good IMHO!

there is v little info on the vintage R&Cs at all. My alto was created when R&C were at its most successful (accoding to the web site - check this out for more if you haven't already) and based in Milan.

I love my R&C and fear :? that it rivals my yani 990 and that's some admission if you are to go by my log on!!

Good Luck

How about an alto from say, the 50's or 60's? I am about to purchase one, and I wonder if it would be worth what I pay for it? I am in college, so money is scarce. . . lol I find that information on the vintage R&C horns is hard to come by, and when you can find it, one source contradicts another, which contradicts another, and on and on the circle goes. . . Any info? Please help a young musician!

Bought it, it turns out it's a 1940s. . . It's in the shop right now, about to come back to me, and I can't wait. If it's as great as Yani described, I'm going to have to use it for all of my gigs!

Well, I did go pick it up today, and Yani's description is dead-on! That's exactly how mine plays, and I love the broad, dark tone. . .
