I received a HR Tenor mouthpiece with a horn I bought recently.
It is a Geo. M. Bundy "3" mouthpiece. Now I can't seem
to find much info on these pieces.
At first I thought it was just some cheap student mouthpiece,
until I played it! It just plays with a beautiful, resonant tone.

I have no idea of the tip opening, it is relatively closed. For years
I've played on metal pieces in the .105-.120 range. I needed a much
harder reed than I'm used to in order to play this Bundy.

The mpc. seems to be made of excellent quality HR, has thin rails,
and top-notch facing. Now for the questions:

-Anyone know how old this piece might be?
-Is "3" the opening, or model number? Are these available
in a larger tip opening?

I really like this mouthpiece. However, the drawback is I can't get the
VOLUME that I like.
-Can the piece be modified to get more volume,
WITHOUT changing the basic characteristics of the sound???

The sounds always changes some when opening up a piece to any significant degree. But yeah - if that's a hard rubber Bundy, those are really great. The "3" is the facing/tip opening. Sometimes I've seen them as a "4", but I don't think anything bigger than that.

That design is awesome around .095"

I've opened up a couple of these - also duck-billed the tip to make it more comfy. I have some pics at work that I'll try and find tomorrow.

They are great blanks. The hard rubber is usually superb.

Ok, I appreciate the feedback. So does anyone know what the
actual tip measurement would be for the "3" ?

The ww&bw chart lists it at .077" for tenor.
