hi!
I´m new to this, so please help me!
i´m going to buy my first sax, and i´d like to know if the selmer bundy II ( tenor ) is a good quality sax.
( and good to start with, too)
And another question: what type of sax is best to start with?
The Selmer Bundy II is the most popular and most numberous student instrument in perhaps the world. They tend to emphasise durability in their construction and in that way they are a quality instrument. You also need to take this into account: how well has the instrument been maintained? what kind of shape is it in? Persononally, I wouldn't pay more than $400 for one in good shape. Regardless, it's an instrument you will outgrow after a few years of serious study and playing.
The best type of horn to start out depends on your situation. What will this horn be used for? How much do you have to spend?
If you are a student that will participate in marching drills, I'd say yeah, provided it's in acceptable condition and the asking price is reasonable. A lot of us in that situation started out on a bundy (I played a BundyI for seven years).
If you are an adult looking to get into it, usually we all suggest an investment in a more advanced horn.
Hi gsmsax,
The short answer to your question is: yes, the BundyII is a good beginner sax to get started with.
The long answer however is: Don't limitate your choice to just the BundyII. Try out yourself and have someone to try for you other brands to help you find the most suitable saxophone for you. There are plenty student-line and intermediate-line saxophones out there to try and compare. Buying a saxophone is something you should take your time at and consider carefully the pros & cons for each you try before you pick the one that's right for you and that meets your budget.

I've seen them in second hand music stores for @450. They should be available through personal classifieds for maybe a little less. They tend to go on ebay for well under $200.
Keep you're eyes out for other good students horns while you look. We really need a thread dedicated to decent vs not so decent student horns here.
look for:
Bundy
Vito
Yamaha
King
