unusual Vito

I am looking at a really strange Vito.It has big raised letters that say Vito on the bell with elaborate sort of strange engraving.It has a 3 hole strap hanger and pearls that cover the holes in the key guards and a very fancy
thumb rest.It says Kenosha and the serial # is V28xx.It is quite
heavy for an alto.Anyone have any info on this specimen?

Here http://www.doctorsax.biz/vito_ser_nos.htm is the only attempt I know of to sort out all the Vito variants.
I got interested in them when I bought a Johnny Hodges model with outrageous full engraving and Leblanc system keywork/tonehole placement. Leblanc corp wasn't very forthcoming, even 20+ years ago since I have a letter from them that was written in response to a query from the music store that originally had my horn about total production numbers for that model. Leblancs response, in I think 1983, was essentially,
"Yup, they're great horns but we don't know how many we made."

I think you're describing one of the Vitos on Doctor Sax's site. Take a look at this (http://www.doctorsax.biz/vito_alto_sax_deluxe_1034b.htm) and see if nots like the one you saw. I agree with saintsday that Kim Slava, aka Dr. Sax, is becoming a primary source for a wealth of Vito information, including a growing serial number chart (http://www.doctorsax.biz/vito_ser_nos.htm).

Goodsax - that is really a nice looking sax. Thanks for sharing the reference. If it plays anything like my (less fancy) # V-2001 plays, I'm sure it plays as great as it looks.
