Eric,
Pete Hale's (Saxpics) site has a whole section devoted to Kohlerts, with a company history, photos, serial numbers and model outline. What is it you are looking for that isn't covered there?

Hi Eric,
Post some pictures of your horn here, and I guarantee that many of our members will help you pin point the exact model etc.
Cheers.

Here are the photos that Eric sent to me:
I assume you have looked on the front of the bell. I have seen older German horns with the serial# below the bell engraving near the bell/bow joint. Occasionally, there are digits on the bottom of the octave key. Also, near the neck receiver. I notice that the Populars on "Saxpics" all had microtuner necks whereas yours does not. Does your Kohlert have rolled tone holes? beveled tone holes? Apparently, there are Kohlerts with beveled tone holes.
FWIW, The body to bell brace looks more typical of French than of German(or Czech) horns.
Check this Saxpics "Pierret" page for another ser# location: http://www.saxpics.com/the_gallery/pierret/early/alto/silver/1177/1.jpg
How does it play?
