I am a sax player who teaches elementary school band. I like to be able to show students the basics on all the instruments. The problem with me and the trumpet is that resistance just kills me to a point it literally hurts to play, especially if I try to play above C in the staff. Trombone is OK for me. I am wondering if anyone would recommend a mouthpiece that is free blowing, less resistant for someone that only picks a trumpet on occaision. I am using a generic 7 mouthpiece on an old Bundy trumpet now.

I think you need to go to a music shop and have them offer you some possibilities. Its a complex question. I never heard anyone say their Monette was too tight! They have big throats and short lengths, so plenty of airflow. But there are lots of mouthpieces....thousands of them.....

Hey Stretch,

A good friend of mine who is a GREAT trumpet player has a bunch of higher quality trumpet mouthpieces he's selling. Email me at WalterNak8@yahoo.com and we'll talk.

As a sax player on Trumpet, I prefer Shallower Cups, and Flatter rims.
I got alot of years on trumpet but maybe that helps.

And Scheilke (bad spelling) have much nicer rims in my opinion then Bach. In other words they fell nicer on my lips.

I use a 14A4A but that's a lead trumpet mouthpiece, I wouldn't recommend it if your having problems with middle C. I use it to get above G4. Ok to get to G4.

It's supposed to hurt. Trumpet playing is not something you can do casually.

You get replies on TrumpetHerald? I posted there today, have 49 views and not one reply.

I can say that's not the first time I waited a very long time for a reply on TrumpetHerald.

Yeah I usually always get decent replies

I put a flugel for sale in the marketplace, it was sold in less than 3 hours!
