I recently ordered a Selmer larry Teal but the circle in the inside is slightly misshpaed. Is this becuase of badmanufacturing or is it normal and i should keep it.

It should be round w/no defects...it was probably one of the inconsistant ones that happened to make it out of the factory.

Shouldn't affect the way it plays if it is generally round and has a cross-sectional area similar to a "good" circular throat. If it's not too much trouble to return it, though - might as well. You paid for it.

What's "selmer larry teal"? Are they the mouthpiece that selmer us makes?

LT is a facing designation - Selmer Paris made. Very closed tip and a long facing curve, circular chamber.

Selmer mouthpieces have a lot of inconsistencies in the rubber that they use. The LTs are the worst for some reason. You'll get one that's perfectly hard and shiny, and the next one will be soft enough to see your teeth marks in them. This has been a problem with them for as long as I can remember, and I would imagine that the chamber problem is a result of warpage due to these inconsistencies.

J.Max: Wow, you've really got it bad for Selmer mouthpieces, don't you. Contrary to your assertions, every Selmer mouthpiece I've owned has been a player - and that would be a bunch.

For example, I have three Super Session J-facings for soprano. All play alike - and great. The SS-J is my favorite soprano piece.

I have two Soloist F-facings for alto - both play alike - and great.

I have several soprano Selmer S-80 pieces from C* through J and they all play well. DAVE

Heh.

I like Selmer mouthpieces...in fact, for most of my playing career, that's what I used for classical playing. (Although I used a Rousseau on my Yamaha alto.) But they have had some odd manufacturing quirks...once you find a good one though, it's like finding a Stradivarius.

Ditto on the quality. I have played Selmers that I don't like, but it is the opening or chamber design and not the build of it. My favorites for Alto and Soprano.
