anybody double on guitar? i actually really like playing classical guitar in addition to the saxes. sometimes, just get tired of blowing, making my mouth all tired and sore. sometimes, just nice playing something with my hands instead of blowing and spitting all the time, but have never been able to get the proficiency on guitar than sax, which i'd been playing forever. anybody have the same problems/issues?

No, I don't tire of the saxophone - the tenor has been my voice for 30 years or so. That said, there have been times in my life when I could not sufficiently devote myself to the saxophone and so turned to guitar. When issues such as working alternating shifts or living in a submarine kept me from practicing the saxophone or being able to commit to an ensemble of any size, I worked on solo guitar arrangements. I still enjoy working with the acoustic (steel string) guitar. Much of my current interest is in studying ki ho' alu and the compositions of Martin Simpson.

The good news? It helps keep me open to even more forms of music that I am able to enjoy. While listening to Pierre Bensusan last night, I started hearing marvelous new opportunities for saxophone music. Inspiration comes from all over the place if you keep your ears and mind open.

I've been playing both sax and guitar for many years, but it seems as though I play guitar more "by ear" when soloing (I really enjoy jamming electric blues). In a way, its more fun than sax. On guitar I don't worry about keys, notes, etc. I just play! Seems I've programmed patterns into my fingers over the years; kinda automatic; but I have to be careful not to lose originality and variation...

Count me in. Guitar has been my main instrument for 20 years. Personally I like to play the cool instruments and have gravitated to these - the guitar is cool, keys are coool, the sax is cooooooool

For the life of me I can't understand why anybody would want to go within a mile of an "Oh No !" or a "Baboon". These instruments are about as cool as watching "Friends" and drinking Lite Beer  You are hardly going to pull the chicks playing classic licks on a piccolo

Okay, the missus is now reading over my shoulder and threatening to slap me, so I better go  .

I've been playing guitar and sax for over 35 years (and, boy, are my arms tired). While they are distinctly different instruments, knowing guitar chords has given me a much better ear when improvising on sax.

I'm currently playing every Sunday a.m. on a church worship team. We play contemporary Christian music which tends to be more rock and roll oriented. Not every song sounds good with a sax so I go back to guitar. It all seems to work out very well.

I guess we're all in this together. I play ATB (just bought a sop, but I won't be home to see it for a while) and guitar/bass. I love the blues on guitar, & I've actually been playing guitar longer, but I'm a sax man for real. Occasionally I have to play bass, which I've done for about 27 years as well. My brother hates it when I play guitar, (he's a trumpet player), but I just love it.
