I started using mouthpiece patches when I realized that if I continued down the path I was going, I would bite through my mouthpiece. Well, they work well, except... I don't know if my teeth are extra sharp, or I'm biting (I do get the right pitch on my mpc exercises, play in tune, etc); but I shred through these things like there's no tomorrow.
Does anyone know of a patch that is like a hard plastic sort of thing, that I won't bite through so fast?

You might call Woodwind and Brasswind and ask them about the patches they include with mouthpieces that they send out on trial. They seem to be really hard - a lot harder than the clear Runyons.

If your teeth are really sharp, you might want to talk to your dentist. The outer corner of my left front upper tooth was a little long. Over the years I chewed through a few mouthpiece bite plates and then mouthpiece patches. Then I asked my dentist to grind the corner down to match the other corners of my two front teeth. It took just a minute, didn't hurt at all, and she didn't charge me. I get a lot more use out of my mouthpiece patches now.

I've taken the 1 clear patches and placed them over 1 black one. Usually the clear ones are thinner and harder, while the black ones are cushiony and thicker. So you'll eventually have the best of both worlds with something that doesn't wear out and something that is a bit more comfy. Yeah, it may be a pain to first adjust to because of height, but it eventually settles and thins out over time. It's lasted me 4+ years, and I don't know why I'd have to change it. It helped me out because it prevented me from closing off the mouthpiece too much and opened up my mouth/throat position.
Just my thoughts and opinions.
