I have a Yamaha (stereo) KX580 Casstee Deck that I would like to record my practice sessions on. My question is could I use a sax-mic, if not could anyone make a recommendation on an alternative?

IF the KX580 has mic level inputs then a dynamic mic could be used.
BUT, I don't think that it does,
My favourite problem solving box is the little Behringer MX802A. This has quite good mic inputs, versatile EQ, and a set of phono sockets suitable for a domestic tape deck. It will also provide phantom power for those Mics that need it.
These can usually be found in the UK for about £50 S/H or £75 new.

I agree with DougR, the Behringer line is great., I have a little MX602a that I picked up for $59.99, but it seems the MX line is being discontinued, replaced by the UB line of mixers, still very affordable. Some retailers still have the MX in stock, www.musiciansfriend.com still has some 602A, but no 802's.

Bill is right, its being phased out.... but can still be found.
in the UK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2552958323&category=47 85
Here is an example of the UB series

Not a bad price either.

duh! I didn't notice at first that both of you are in the UK, how's that for observant?
One thing I noticed with the UB series is that the model number doesn't necessarily correspond to the number of inputs like it did on the MX series.
