If memory serves, horns without "The Martin" engraving are stencils, meaning they are made by, but are not sold under the martin line. I would think they would still play well, but I don't know. Both mine say "The Martin".

'Elkhart' was the home of Martin until LeBlanc bought them out, when the manufacturing was moved to Kenosha. This took place in the mid to late '60s. These 'Kenosha' horns are almost identical to the other 'The Martin' horns from Elkhart, but have a fixed thumbrest. They were made by the same people on the same machinery, but in Kenosha instead of Elkhart. These are rare. Later, Yanagisawa (a subsidiary of LeBlanc) made some saxes with the Martin name on them, but just a few. These are modern-design saxes with nothing in common with 'The Martin', and are said to be good horns.
