Well, got the email this morning that it should be ready by the end of January. Can't wait to try one out. He said he'll have prototypes to try at a few of his conferences and people can try them out there. If anyone happens to visit his shop or try one at the conference, please post your impressions.
After the Alto DV, I am very much looking forward to the soprano.

At least it's cheaper than bypass surgery. :D

Wow, I'd look forward to that piece too. I LOVE my alto DV. I've been wondering about an alternate lig for it besides the Rovner that it comes with. Any suggestions? Sorry for going off topic. ;)

i've tried a number of other ligs, but I kept going bark to the dark one...

My favorite lig on the DV alto was the Fortissimo followed by a Consoli Ramplig and Brancher Leggario. All great ligs. The Fortissimo kind of bothered me after awhile, but if you can put up with the annoyance of have a looser lig then it's great. Really unrestricts your sound, but the same can be said for the other 2. I have 2 of them for sale and will be keeping the Consoli for a later day when I repurchase my alto DV if that says anything.

On both my DVs I use Rovner ED II. Much better response and bigger, rounder tone than the dark lig. Just make sure you get the right size b/c Rovner makes a bunch of different sizes. I use it with the flat metal plate and the rubber flaps between the reed and the metal. I'll admit, however, that I have long been a Rovner ED II devotee.

I have a EDII for my Meyer 6M. What size would I need to the DV?

I might add, I bought an Olegature for my Meyer and it sounds even better than the EDII. I think maybe the EDII is what my DV might need.

I'm also experimenting heavily with reeds on the DV. I like ZZ 3's but they seem to die out pretty fast. I have a Java 3 on it now and it sounds good. I also kind of wonder if I need to go half a step stiffer on this piece. Maye a 3-1/2.

Which EDII fits the DV alto? I'm pretty sure it's one of the soprano sizes. Mine has a slight angle to it and the metal plate is pretty narrow. It fits nicely. Jody emailed me at one point along with other DV purchasers to ask what type of ligs we were using. He might have a list compiled. You should ask him for it.

Spoke with Jody at Namm last weekend and had the opportunity to play the DV Soprano Prototypes. They were not yet gold plated. Although I love the tenor piece, I still prefer my Super Session I over the DV for soprano. He stated that the Super Session was his model for developing the soprano piece and it was hard to improve on the SS sound. He believes he finally did it after a year of trials. I liked the piece, but simply preferred my SS, at least on soprano. He's a great guy and a premere mouthpiece maker & his pieces are flawless.

Hi Jbroad. Don't let me influence you based on my experience last weekend. Your view may be different and it is certainly worth a try when they come out. If a local store doesn't carry them, you can order direct from Jody & give it a try. If you don't like it, just send it back for a full refund. He's awesome to work with. Best regards

I played a protoype at the NAMM show, and was blown away.I generally favor rubber pieces on sop, but this was very even, sweet sounding, and easy to play. I ordered a bunch for the store and I can't wait to try them.
Roger Greenberg at the P. Mauriat booth next door was kind enough to lend me a soprano to try the piece on.
