I bought a used alto mouthpiece on ebay.
It's in great condition, but it smells like cigarettes.
The Rovner lig smells worse.
A short soak in warm soapy water has cleared up most of the mouthpiece odor, but the lig is still nasty.
Any ideas?

Try stuffing and burying the mpc into freshly ground coffee beans, it always worked for any of my vintage mpcs. Also try burying the lig in some bicarb of soda, if the lig really stinks!

Peters ideas are what I do, or take and pulverize some charcoal, wrap it in a porous cloth or tissue and put the offensive items in a small ziplock bag with it for a couple of days. Should take care of it if the other steps don't work.
