Hi:

any possible solutions/suggestions here??

I am expecting my new Yamaha 875-exs soprano to be delivered on friday via UPS. At the time of the order, I requested the soprano be shipped to me at my work address becasue a signature was required.

Wel, my place of work is closed on frioday. UPS will not hold the package and allow me to pick it up, nor will they allow me to change the ship to address until after one delivery attempt.

I have corresponded with UPS via email and have now gotten 2 resonses saying they can't make this change.

Has anyone gotten UPS to change the ship to address before the first attempted delivery? If so, how did you do it?

By talking to a live body on the phone. yes, you have to wade through voicemail hell, but only a live body will give you satisfaction. Make sure to mention your future shipments will be by FedEx/Purolator/USPS if you're not happy with them.

Steve -

Call 1-800-PICK-UPS and speak to a person. At the very least, they should be able to arrange to have them hold the package at the depot.

PS - 875-EXS?? I hate you.

As Frank suggested you may be able to get them to hold it at the UPS Depot/shipping center. Most times shippers due to legal issues are not allowed to change the shipping address while the item is in transit. Even then I think the usual process is that it go to the original destination first then it can be re-routed somewhere else.

Best of luck

The shipper (you) should be able to pick up at the UPS depot. I tried to pick one up at the depot once, as opposed to home delivery, but I was the recipient and not the shipper, and was informed only the shipper could change location of pickup. This means, you should be able to change to depot pickup -- if you can get a human to work it out with.

Try this: scope out what time the UPS truck delivers in the area of your business address on Thursday, then be at the front door at the same time on Friday (these runs are like European trains in timing reliability, but give it an hour or so window). When the driver shows, present yourself and your ID--he'll let you sign for the package on the sidewalk.

I've never actually done this, but I know at my former business addresses the UPS, FedEx, etc. deliveries were almost always made within the same hour-to-90-minute window every day.

OK.... I just spoke with a live person who told me they cannot change the destination of a package while it is in transit.

However, the rep did say that once the package hits the UPS facility in my town, I could call the 1-800 PICK UPS # and have them hold the package at the UPS facility for me to pick up at a later time. So, I'll hitting UPS.com pretty regularly to see when the soprano arrives.

Already thought of that. The UPS driver for my place of employment (a school) has already checked with the school district calendar to see what days the buildings are open.so he needn't waste time trying to deliver to a locked up building. .. Only makes sense, these guys "run the tightest ship in the shipping business"... no wait that was 3 ad campaigns ago.

GRRRRRR.

I have been monitoring the tracking on UPS.Com.

You cannot get a straight story from UPS.. I had called a couple of times while the soprano was in transit, to be told consistently, "We cannot change the ship to address until the package reaches the final stop. Watch UPS.com and when the package reaches the UPS station ikn your town, and the tracking page says "delivery" call us and we can have the package held at the UPS office"

When I asked the representative if they were a 24 hour phone number, she said yes.

Well,it went to delivery at 4:00 am. I called UPS.com and no live operators were available until 7:00 a.m. Great.

At 5:07 tracking said:

THE RECEIVER IS ON A HOLIDAY. DELIVERY WILL BE ATTEMPTED WHEN THE RECEIVER RETURNS;PACKAGE WILL BE DELIVERED NEXT BUSINESS DAY-NO SATURDAY GUARANTEE .

Okay, so I was encouraged by this... The package would stay at the UPS office and I could ostensibly stop by when they open after 1:30 p.m., present my ID and pick up the horn. At least that's what logical-me thought.

So I call at 7:00 am just to confirm my plan. The UPS agent said the horn was NOT at the UPS office. It had been put out for delivery.....

At 7:54 tracking said: OUT FOR DELIVERY

Great.

At 11:01 another entry:

THE RECEIVER IS ON A HOLIDAY. DELIVERY WILL BE ATTEMPTED WHEN THE RECEIVER RETURNS;PACKAGE WILL BE DELIVERED NEXT BUSINESS DAY-NO SATURDAY GUARANTEE .

So I guess I ain't getting my horn until monday. So glad I took a job with some soprano in it for this weekend without a horn expecting I would be able to do what two separate UPS phone agents told me I could do. :x

Steve -

Try this. See if you can get the 1-800-PICK-UPS rep to transfer you to the depot that covers deliveries to the school. Ask them if you can pick up the package today after the driver returns. You should have a window of opportunity there. I've done that before when I missed a delivery during the day.

Good luck, and start practicing your altissimo on the alto. :D

GRRRRR

Ya know, this wouldn't be so bad if someone at the beginning said, "tough luck, wait 'til monday"

At 2:30 yesterday, I spoke with a rep who told me she would send an alert to the local UPS office. That alert would ask them to get the package back to the office, and call me back within the hour to tell me what time I could pick up the package. Promising.

3:30 came and went. I waited til 4:30 and called again. She told me the same thing, she would contact the local office and this time the message would be marked urgent. "An agent will call you within the hour to tell you whern you can pick up the package."

I received a call within minutes. The agent told me, "All packages that were to be delivered to closed businesses today are locked in a trailer awaiting Monday delivery." OK... well unlock the trailer and I'll be over in 10 minutes.

No dice. I proceeded to tell the clerk my tale and how since Wednesday, I was being reassured by agents that I would be able to have the package held and picked up at the office on Friday. I asked again... Nope no way.

It was even more insult to injury when taking my son to a birthday party Friday afternoon, I drove within about 500 feet of the UPS office while they were still open. GRRRR.

My wife was getting annoyed..."You're like a kid at Christmas.. Give it up, you're not getting this horn today!" Guilty as charged... ;)

Oh well. The horn will be delivered on Monday. I've waited since 9/13 for this horn. Monday will make a nice even 2 months. On Monday, however, I teach at a different school than the one the horn will be delivered to. So I'll have to make a special trip after school to get it! Oh well. It should turn out fine.

I'll post a review.

Thanks to all who posted and made suggestions as to how I might get the horn on Friday....

I finally received the 875 ex s soprano yesterday around 4:00 p.m. Unfortunately Monday was hellish so I only got to spend about 15 minutes with it. All indications are that it is everything I had hoped for... but need to spend more time with it. Will post a review, comments, etc.
