Hi

I am looking to buy a ref 54 tenor (vintage finish). I am heading over to europe and would really like to go to one shop where I can go in and try 3 or 4 and buy the one I like the most.

I’ve contacted the likes of saxofoonwinkel and saxophone.co.uk amongst others, but the most any shop seem to have is 1 of these horns. I don’t want to go that far out of my way unless I could find a shop with a number of horns to choose from.

Where in Europe would be the shop that is likely to have the most stock – what about Paris – is there a factory shop or something like that.

Thanks a lot.

Yes, Art et Musique in Rue de Rome. It is the street alongside Gare St Lazare. The shop is a Selmer distributor. There are two Selmer distributors in France ... the other is across the road.

I tried several Series 2 when I went there to buy mine some years ago; they will have plenty of Refs. You can always call or e-mail before you go; that's what I did.

Thanks very much. I wonder whether you would have their web site address - I'm finding it difficult to locate them, given my very poor french!

Thanks alot.

Would you also, per chance, have the name of the shop opposite?

Thanks again.

The shop opposite is probably

feeling musique
61 rue de Rome

Rue de Rome is quite the interesting street to wander down. I have never seen so many luthiers in one place before.

Full of luthiers; also some very interesting sheet music and antiquarian shops.

The reason for all the luthiers is that the Rue de Rome was declared by Louis XIV to be the only place in Paris where string instruments could be made. The traditions have passed down through the centuries. It's fascinating to walk by and see them at work, each one specialising in different instruments.

BTW, its a very bad place to go if you suffer from GAS.
