Why so many vintage Brhilart Tonaline have a crack in the table? Should I be careful with mine?

The formulation of that compund is very brittle, so it is more susceptible to cracking and damage due to thermal extremes, stress, and handling.

Do be careful.

It was one of the first (if not the first) plastic mouthpiece. Lucite I think. The shank bore is a little on the tight side too. So players jam them on their corks and the thin plastic can not take it and they crack.
