Hello,
I recently purchased a JodyJazz plastic alto piece. It's pretty nice when I can find a good reed for it, but I was wondering how a Runyon Jaguar compares? Like, with the JJ, it seems like I have to struggle to get soft low notes, but I do like the versatility of the piece. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks :D

With the Jaguar you definately won't have that problem. It plays effortlessly through the entire range of the horn and has great response to dynamics. Soundwize however, the Jag is a much darker mpc than the JJ.

You shouldn't be having problems with the Jody Jazz. Email Jody and discuss it with him. He'll help you figure out the problem.

Well, maybe my problem is with the reeds. What kind of reeds work best with JJ plastics?

That's my point. Any of the readily-available standard cuts (Rico Select Jazz, LaVoz, Vandoren Javas or V16s) should work just fine with the JJ mpc. That was one of Jody's design goals. Go out to www.jodyjazz.com and email Jody with the specific problems you're having. He's a teacher, I'm sure he'll have some useful suggestions for you.

Since it's bascially a Runyon Custom, try a fibracell, or a bari if you are into synth reeds, or a V16 if you like cane

I agree. Neither one should be giving you problems playing low or high. The JJ is the best responding lowregister piece I have played. I own and play on both the JJ (#9) and the Jaguar (also #9). Jody can helkp .. or else check your equipment for leaks. Check Embrochure tension, etc.

I use Fibracell MS on mine, BTW
