Hi, I play mainly tenor sax (although I tried bari for 3 weeks; man, is that one huge sax!) and I'll own a Yani T-901 in a few weeks. I'm already looking into buying a soprano sax within the next year or so (so I'll have time to recoil from this purchase) . Anyway, the models I'm looking into are listed below:
Antigua 590 BC (very cool-looking)
Yani S901
Yani SC901
Yamaha YSS475
Any suggestions here? Also, do any of Antigua's lower models (582 or 586) come in the black chrome finish? Finally, what difference is there between Yani's straight and curved sopranos, and would it be beneficial for me to stay within the Yani product line? Thanks!

Hi,
I have an SC901 I may be persuaded to sell. It's been played very little since I purchased it about 18 months ago. Tim at Sax Alley set the horn up originally and it plays like new. E-mail me using the tab at the bottom if you want more information.

Chris,
If money is not the issue, then hands down, one of the Yanagisawa's. They make the best sopranos on the planet... period.
We prefer the straight models but personal call. The SC901 is near impossible to get right now (refer to the Yanagisawa thread for comments on that) and they will be releasing a new curved model, the SC991 in a few weeks. Best to my knowledge, they have not said for sure wether they are going to discontinue the SC901 or not although I have seen some websites say that they will.
Now if price is the issue, then as you derived from previous threads, the Antigua is the way to go. They only do that black finish on the 590 model... they make more money on the 590 so the only do the optional finishes on it. Smart marketing I guess but not always as great on the pocketbook.

Agreed, for soprano, go Yanagisawa! Right now I'm playing a YSS-475, great horn but the tone is not as complex (i'm borrowing it from my school).
