Hi Everyone,

I currently play selmer SS J on a Buescher straight TT soprano, pretty happy with it except the middle C is always a little bit weak, when I use a little closer SS H the problem is gone, but the low note is too close for my taste, I was wondering what's your take on the new JJ HR soprano mouthpiece, on vintage horn especially, and how about the Yanagisawa HR sop, I will be in Hong Kong and Japan toward the end of the year, could easily pick one up there, in Canada is very tought to find the JodyJazz piece, Thanks in advance!à

I know Long and Mcquade sells Jody Jazz mouthpieces as does Gary Armstrong Woodwind in Toronto.

I have not seen a new JJ sop mouthpiece. I used to own a JJ sop piece based on the Runyon. I have a Yanagisawa sop mouthpiece. Neither the JJ nor the Yana comes close to my Super Session J pieces, but that's just me. DAVE

I agree with Dave Dolson. The JodyJazz and Yanagisiwa HR are nice pieces (if I had to choose one, it'd be the Yani), but my SS I has a much fuller sound and is more flexible than either one.

Both are good pieces. I have a Yani HR 5 and SS H. The Yani blows a little easier and is a tad brighter, but closer so I can't push the volume as much. Sometimes when I play a sax soli with soprano lead part such as Groove Merchant I wish for a little more edge than the SS provides. I would like to try a Yani HR 6 (yes they make even numbers now) or maybe a Rousseau SJ7.

Have not tried a JJ HR, nor classic.

I used a S-80 for years and then got a Vandoren V5, Yana HR and a SS. I sold the V5. The S-80 is sweet, the Yana centered but the Super Session plays like the horn has had a rag removed, open power, nice sound, great dynamics. It is my keeper now for all my sopranos, TT, Martin and whatever comes in this week.

Thank you guys, for all these great input, looks like I should be happy with what I got, and be grateful. I remembered for the last few years I've tried and brought different soprano mouthpiece and I always go back to the SS J, looks like we got a winner here again.
