Gday, I have often read about Junkdude on this forum and have had friends buy off him in the past. He has got a great reputation. So when i was needing a meyer 5m alto piece i thought i would try buying through him as he is quite cheap. I emailed him with a request for the piece and was informed there was some in stock and my order had been put through.
I recieved the piece today (being in australia it took a while to get here) however when i had a look it has CLEARLY been used before. There is no damage, but there is a patch on the top, and the inside of the piece is quite scratched. It still plays fine, however i did order a NEW piece and PAYED for a new piece. He has even written 'used' on the box it came in.
Has anyone else had similar problems? ANy suggestions on what i should do?

I have have bought two mouthpieces from junkdude in the past and they have been new sealed in the box. Maybe he sent you the used mouthpiece by mistake. Im sure he will resolve the situation for you :)

Have you tried to contact him to resolve this before airing dirty laundry here? Dave is a great guy, and I'm sure it was just a mistake. Contact him, and I'm sure he'll take care of it.

Calling must be the secret. (Hard to do from down under.) You have PM.

Dave finally replied to my emails, saying it was a new piece that must have been tried in the shop before shipping. He also said he had written "used" on the box so as it makes it through customs quicker.
This is probably all true, however to me the mouthpiece had alot more then 5 or so mins of playing on it, but none the less, ive decided to keep it as i am quite happy with how it plays.
Dave was very apologetic and offered to replace it if i sent it back. This is the kind of customer service one only dreams of when it comes to online buying. I will still buy through junkdude if i ever need anything, and i highly recommend him, if not only for his customer service.
I've dealt with Dave many times and he's always been extremely helpful and accomdating.

I agree, Dave is a very top notch guy. My suggestion next time is to give him a call. It will be a lot quicker.

I've bought and E-mailed from Dave, patience must be allowed during e-mail responding as I am sure he has many to personally respond to.
He is always up front.

Oh, I see, I guess I will try to reach him on the phone from now on.
On the flip-side, Steve Sarge Stransky is very good about answering emails.

My experience buying from Dave has indicated that he is old school, and Email is not the best way to contact him (and he isn't alone, believe me). Phone him instead.
Steve is always readily available on-line, and does indeed like to communicate via Email.
Both are exceptional techs, and sources for fine vintage horns in my opinion.

Dave's mail server just kicked back my email. The message was rejected stating his mailbox had received too many (491) spam messages recently. I called earlier and the voicemail greeting stated they were having email server problems. I was able to reach him on the phone later and he was very helpful answering my mouthpiece questions. Looks like phone is the best communication avenue right now.

That was me. Since it turned out to be a slight snafu (which according to your posts was resolved satisfactorily) and not malpractice or malice afore thought on the part of Junkdude, I thought it would be better that the title reflected that.

I'm pleased to see the title changed. As a band director, I send many of my better students to Junkdude because I am confident in his customer service...should an issue ever arise.

Amen to that
