I've been looking at these mouthpieces, and I was wondering what are your wise thoughts on the legends or pros.
Muchos gracias.

I was lucky enough to score an SR Tech Legend for my tenor in a trade with one of the good folks here on the forum. It's a very good match for my VII and is my number one mouthpiece for my dixieland/indoor combo gigs. It doesn't have the projection of brighter metal mouthpieces, but it does let you get that deep, rich, dark tone so many are looking for these days.

I had one (LEGEND). In fact, I may be the one who traded with Grumps. I think for a millenium link? I don't even remember!
It plays with a deep dark sound, and can project if used properly. Not with the same power and edge of say a Ponzol M2 or Dukoff D chamber, but it nevertheless can have a nice big sound. I hestitate to say it sounds like a link, cause it really doesn't, but that's probably the closest mpc it would sound like if I had to describe the sound. These are very well made mpcs indeed.
I just wish they would release one in a .115 facing.

I just got one, and SR legend sounds quite good. It seems bright to me and it is somewhat easy to play altissimo range. The material is really awesome looking too, having a translucent quality. What is this stuff called?

As I said before, I have the tenor Legend, which is metal. You must have purchased the alto which is allegedly "bullet proof", or made from the same material they use in the vests. I think they styled the alto Legend after the NY Meyers, and the tenor Legend after the NY Links, so we're talking apples and oranges here.
Meanwhile, I'm still trying to figure out how to use this Legend tenor "properly." :dazed:

As far as the S.R. Pro goes, one of my favorite sax players, Kenny Blake sounds fantastic on his!
He gets everything from a mellow whisper to an absolutely huge sound on his Mark VI.
I tried the same piece and sounded to bright for my tastes.
But that piece lets him sing!

Anyone recommend a specific reed type to go with the SR LEGEND?
Thanks!
Anybody know what the soprano legend is supposed to be based on? (more specifically than "Patterned after classic French mouthpieces" - it doesn't look like a Soloist, and it doesn't play like a Super Session or a Selmer Classic Metal...)
I'm in the process of finding a good mouthpiece match for my new SML soprano. I played every mouthpiece they had in stock at my local place, and as much as I didn't want to like it, ended up going with the SR Tech Legend. I played both a metal and a "polycarbonate" - they really were pretty consistent, so I saved myself some $$ and bought the poly one.
Anyway... it's got a nice warm sound, even throughout the range, and easy altissimo. It's a great match for my SML, even if it does look kinda goofy.
(oh yeah - I bent a brass lig I had to fit it and banished the Rovner to my mouthpiece/lig graveyard...)

from the web site "Computer machined from Zelux-M, a polycarbonate resin which is similar to the material used in bullet proof windows, they are virtually unbreakable."
bullet proof vests use Kevlar, the astronauts space helmets use(d) Lexan.
Interesting - first hit from a quick Google search:

max - if you liked that link, then you'll probably be interested in this one, too:

"Delrin" is used by Runyon to make some of their mouthpieces.
Actually, I'd prefer it if the durn thing was just plain ol' HR. It sounds good, though, so I won't complain too much.

I just played with a guy who had gotten an alto legend. Usually I hate his sound and don't look forward to when he sits in with my band. But the Legend made a huge improvement in his tone. Are these things really that good? Hard to tell in a loud club but now I am thinking of getting one for my Buffet.
