hello,
has somebody already had a chance to play those new "vintage" HR link called "PT" that you can get from Bob Ackerman?
those are made from a 70's mold (similar to the tenny) with the current link rubber and faced by Brain Powell or Erick Griffenhagen.
I'm still looking for a good linkish HR piece and would be curious to know how those new born "PT" play...
thanks
I haven't played this piece but I did get a HR Link "V" model from Saxalley. While looking it over I found a PT engraved just under the USA on the shank. I emailed Tim about it but have not heard back yet. What Tim initially said about this piece was that it has a little more baffle right behind the tip the way they used to make Links. It does play good and I'm currently comparing it to an Ackerman B&N resin lost wax model. If you are looking for a Linkish type of piece you should try the Ackerman lost wax. They're very nicely finished, have a Link sound but more and very free blowing.

What is a "V" Link? Babbit's website has no mention of it. I think I saw something on SOTW that these are just stock mouthpieces that are looked over by the owner of Saxalley who "hand-picks" and calls them "V"s. Is that "PT" as in Barnum?
The V model Link looks like a new production Link except that the rails are a bit thinner and there is much less indentation after the tip baffle. It doesn't have the baffle of an early Babbitt but it's better than other current production I've seen. It plays pretty good.

thanks for your answer BobD.
i've tried some lostwax HR, but i didn't like the sound of the rubber they use for it, but the TK facing are really excellent.
Ackerman says that the PT link are refaced by Brian Powell or Rick Griffenhagen, so it could be that the V is the blank with the standard facing.
let me know what Tim says.
cheers

I had the Bob Ackerman hard rubber piece for about a year. I got it at Roberto's Mine said TK on the side and 108. It seemed to be one of the most popular facings. I sold it because I really liked a peter ponzol mouthpiece I tried. If I was rich and collect mouthpieces like some of the katz here I would have definitely kept it. Ed calle also complimented my sound when I was playing on it.

FWIW - my main tenor mpc for the past year and a half has been a hard rubber Otto Link "PT" (.112 tip opening) that I bought from Bob Ackerman- Ted Klum did the work on it, not Brain Powell or Erik Griffenhagen (I had Bob ask Ted to do the work for me in a #8-8* tip opening). At that time, only TK was doing the work on the "PT" Links, but now Brian and Erik have been doing the work (TK still does the majority of Bob's mpc work). It's a GREAT mouthpiece.
