I have lots of experience with Rovner Darks, and a little experience with the Light, but I've never seen a MKIII, nor have I found anyone that can tell me the difference between the two beyond the "more robust tone" description that Rovner has on their website. I'm not quite sure how to quantify "more robust tone". Perhaps it can't be quantified. :?:

Somebody help me out. :)

I'm considering a MKIII for a tenor NY Link (recent production) that I've got. Otherwise, I'll get a Dark.

Any help is appreciated.

The mkIII is basically an eddie daniels without the metal part. It differs from the dark in that it has a double layer of leather-like material (shiny side out) around the whole ligature, inside and out, and it has these stitches on the inside where it touches the reed. As far as the sound, it does seem to have a slight edge in projection or meatiness over the dark, which can be muffled, and the light, which can be thin. I think it puts a more centered pressure on the reed than the others, like some metal ligs do. It's not bad, but the vandoren optimum ligature outperforms it.
