I've read that the early Zephyrs were Voll Trues with the Zephyr name on them and that they changed significantly at some point.
Does anyone know around what serial # the change happened or how you can tell the Voll True Zephyrs from the "real" Zephyrs?
Thanks.

I think on the SOTW home page there is a link for Saxgourmet's serial #'s for vintage saxes, as well as a bluebook for different brand vintage horns. Otherwise, a user, Saxpics knows a lot about Kings and Zephyrs. Good luck.

All I can find is that somewhere around 1940 they added the double socket neck and came out with the Zephyr Special. Does this mean that all Zephyrs previous to the double socket neck are essentially Voll-Trues?
I'm just confused because the saxgourmet site says that the pre Zephyr Kings arn't very good, but that Zephyrs are great horns. Then it says that early Zephyrs are actually Voll-Trues. :?: :!:
I'm wondering because I've been looking at a Zephyr made in about '37, and I'm wondering if it is worth getting, or if I should hold out for one made in the 40's.

Saxomophone:I have a Zephyr alto which supposedly is a 1936 according to one of those serial # lists (203xxx) which has the double neck socket. I think it plays great- nice and bright and modern sounding. It has the bell keys on the right side and a nice ART DECO design.
