Hi. What are my options for a protective case for a Martin curved soprano circa 1980, made by Yanigisawa?
I am getting one of these and it is coming with brown leather reunion blues case. If I can get a more protective case i might sell that one off.
Who makes a more protective case for this sax? I dont want this horn to get damaged as I take it around all the time.
Thanks.

Why not contact a Yani dealer, or Yani directly, and tell them that your case got damaged, and you'd like to purchase a replacement?

Thanks that is a good suggestion, but i have no idea what that case is like. I would really like one that is compact and has a shoulder strap, like an SKB or Walt Johnson or Propac. I read somewhere Walt Johnson makes curved soprano cases, I am sure someone on here knows all about cases for curved sopranos and will show up in this message area real soon. If this person has approximate prices, that would be good too.

Gary: The cases that come with new Yana curved sops are EXCELLENT. If your "Martin" is the same shape, it probably would fit and I couldn't think of a better case for that horn. DAVE

I just bought a case from John Myatt in the UK, a JM Curved Soprano Case and it is very similar to a BAM Trekking Case. Go to this link: http://www.myatt.co.uk/sax-a.htm
Then scroll down near the bottom under shaped cases to the second item "JM Curved Soprano Case."
Description:
"JM lightweight cases, fabric finish, unbeatable quality combined with amazingly low price; with shoulder straps etc. available in black, navy blue or wine red"
There are two shoulder straps so you can wear it like a back pack, or just use one and carry it over your shoulder. It was only UK69pds which is about $110US and was shipped immediately from the UK, arriving in just a few days.
Check it out! Good Luck!

DEG makes a basic curved soprano case which can fit vintage, fixed neck sopranos and newer removable neck sopranos as well. It's a basic hard wood case with mohair like pillowing inside to cushion the horn. WWBW has them for just over a hundred bucks.

I have a vintage curved Pan American soprano. It's old case was funtional but not as protective as I would have liked. It was suggested to me to buy a metal brief case and line it with foam to make a new case for it. That's what I did. Works really well.
I used the egg carton foam from a mattress topper. I cut the foam to fit the case. Then I cut out a piece of the foam to accomodate the shape of the horn in the the lid and the bottom of the case. I also cut out a slot for the mothpiece and reed holder. I then covered both of the foam pieces with purple stretch velvet. The horn safely travels in the case with 0 movement and has foam protection on all sides.
Shades of Kim. Did you line it with faux dingo skin or something more exotic?

Gary, did you ever find a case for your Martin? I just bought a new Yanagisawa Curved Soprano and that case is available if you are interested. It is a sturdy wooden case with a padded vinal covering, howver there is no strap or any place to attach a strap.
