Hi has anyone tried this above mpc.
The price is twice the the cost of a normal HR link.... why?
Does this mpc help mortals like us get any closer to the heavenly Stan Getz sound?
thanks.

There have been a lot of mentions on this forum. Use the search function and you'll find them. To answer your questions, yes, I have two, a tenor and soprano. I think they are wonderful mouthpieces, very easy to play (I can't believe I said easy to play in reference to a soprano piece, but it's all relative). Doc blueprints them, he doesn't modify them. They play and sound like exceptional Links. In my opinion, that's a very good thing.
As far as the Getz sound, I wouldn't know. They only way I can get close to the Getz sound is by putting one of his recordings on my stereo. That sound comes from the player, not the piece.
Oh, yeah, the cost of Doc's pieces--you can pay a premium for a really good, well-adjusted piece, or play mouthpiece roulette. I've found it cheaper to pay the premium.

Hi retread, i kinda of agree with you. Eventually the sound we get has got to do mainly with how we shape our throat, mouth, embrochure, etc.
Guess more has to do with the hardwork we put in and the mpc perhaps play a tiny role and i guess for these topnotch players, they could pretty reproduce "their" sound on any mpc :)

I found them to be no better than Ralph Morgan mouthpieces. Very nice, dark tone and feel up to the altissimo, then they require some effort. But, I don't recall Getz playing much in that range.

I've played these pieces some when hanging out with Doc. I think they're great to the point where I might get one just to have around.
It's essentially what Doc himself plays and he has a Getz-ish sound but that's his concept. When I play the piece, I don't sound all that much like Getz or Doc. Maybe if that's what I was striving for . . .
As far as altissimo goes, I EXPECTED it to be somewhat difficult but it wasn't at all for me. Neither is it on the Tonalin piece I bought from Doc. His pieces just seem to work. I was listening to Doc play recently and I commented to him that his altissimo didn't sound like altissimo. Of course his reply was, "It's not supposed to."

Why a 7? Are they avalable in other openings, like 8?

Hi frankbiff,
I think they offer the Doc modified links size 7 at saxquest only.
Somebody correct me if i am wrong.
