View Full Version : So what's so good about Runyon mouthpieces?

I've played quite a variety of mouthpieces over the years but never a Runyon. I'm fairly happy with the Vandoren I am playing but, like most players, I am always on the look out for the perfect piece. When I came across this forum I was suprised to find a string dedicated to Runyons as opposed to say Links. The basic models seem to be reasonably priced so I might give them a try but as my local dealers don't stock them I'll have to send off for one but I need convincing.

What's so good about them?

Buster,

I believe East Coast Winds (might have that slightly wrong) is a Runyon dealer on your side of the pond.

As for why, reasonable price, quality designs, and models for various styles of music. check out the website http://www.runyonproducts.com
it was recently re-designed but there was a page that compared all the models.

I have a Runyon Custom Spoiler 9 on trial from Myatt's in Hitchin, Herts, and I most definitely will be keeping it ( I preferred it to the Vandoren Java and Dukoff that I tried in the shop). I have only recently switched to tenor, but it feels a lot better to play than my HR Link 6* on my alto. And the projection I get from the spoiler means I can scare the cats in the next village without leaving my bedroom :D

I was almost tempted by the XL too........(I can feel the GAS kicking in).

They are well worth a try, even if you decide after trying a few out that they are not for you. Until you try you will never know, and they have quite a following for a reason

let me know where you are in the UK, We are now supplying Runyons to dealers all over the UK and Scotland. I can arrange to drop some off at your nearest dealer if they dont have in stock what your looking for.

They offer a nice variety of pieces for a variety of styles. They are reasonably priced. The seem to be pretty consistent in quality. And they come in a variety of cool colors (or some models come in metal).

I can find Runyons over here (although it is not always that easy to find a good selection), but anyone know if there is anywhere one can try Jody Jazz mps anywhere in the UK ?

I have my Runyon Custom Spoiler, but hear a lot about the Jody Jazz pieces on SOTW, without ever actually having come across one.
