Hello friends. In looking at the Dukoff mouthpices on the WW&BW site; I notice that there are so many chamberings for the "D" "D4 through D9. I want the brighter sound, so I want to go with a "D" and not an "M" . But in looking at the Bobby Dukoff homepage (www.dukoff.com/) I notice two things; 1~ The mouthpieces are gold in color, but on the WW&BW site (http://www.wwbw.com/Item/?itemno=26526) they are silver in color. I know these art metal mouthpieces, but what color are they exactly? I have emailed Bobby concerning my questions, yet to no avail. 2~ The Bobby Dukoff homepage goes into no detail concerning the 6 different sizes in the "D" chamber. What size would you recommend for a new beginner? Thank you so much for your replys. Robert Hammond

Robert, I've got the D8. It is "silverite" which is, well, silver colored. Be careful if you are a beginner - the higher the number the more difficult it's going to be to keep the right embochure. Also, don't buy until you try. I learned the hard way. The lay was not machined well and I had to do some "adjusting." Plays a lot better now. If I were you I'd save my hard earned cash and stick with the mouthpiece you've got (what kind of sax is it?) and build that lip before you jump off into something that may just sit in the case. Play usig the mouthpice only for a few weeks (and then every time for a bit thereafter) until you know the embochure is spot on. Good luck - Fish

H bought a YY-875 Custom. I also ordered a Selmer Super Session mouthpiece, Vandoren V-16 2.5 reeds and some med.-soft Fibrasoft reeds. Thank you for your advice. I have bveen carefully heeding the Polls and Replys given on this website. You guys are the pro's, and me just a wannabe. Robert Hammond

I meant a YSS-875, not a YY-875. Sorry.

i strongly advise against buying a dukoff as a starter mpc for sop.this is not an easy mpc to play. i think you will do much better with a selmer supersession

Your advice is well recieved. I will wait until I learn how to play first, then move up if I even need to. You're right, the SSS mouthpiece will serve me just fine for the beginning. I think once I get good, I will know what I want in the future. Robert Hammond

I agree with super20dan's comment about starting with an easier mouthpiece (and the Super Session is a great piece). I have both a metal Dukoff and (recently) a Selmer Super Session...the Dukoff takes more work to control. And the Dukoff is certainly brighter than the Super Session.

AND I had to send the Dukoff to JVW for refacing and reworking before it really played decently.

Robert, I have six Dukoffs D models for various saxes and another on the way. On Soprano, I suggest you try a few hard rubber pieces (like Selmers, etc. or Runyons) to see what tip opening blows easily for you (sometimes you may want a darker sound anyway). Then buy a Dukoff that is perhaps a little more open than you want to play. When the mouthpiece arrives, send it to one of the good mouthpiece refacers and tell them what you want and what tip opening works well for you. A dukoff reworked by someone who knows what they are doing (Mojobari did two of mine!!) is a great piece and probably the only way to get a really good one; which is why I don't suggest you learn what tip opening you like on "stock" dukoffs.

Anybody knows what difference between Dukoff's S & D CHAMBER ?
Does D chamber even more brighter than S?
If yes, a Metal Link soprano vs Dukoff D Chamber, which is more bright?

PS: I got a Metal Link STM for soprano but it's too sharp & too bright. I can't suffer it.
