I took a flyer and bought a Buescher Aristocrat Bari from Dave Kessler on ebay. Serial number is 358xxx, which puts it about 1959, I think. Now I need a mouthpiece. Does this vintage of Buescher require a large chamber? On tenor and soprano I use HR Links, but have no objection to something a little more focused on bari. What pieces have good intonation on this sax?

Also, given that I use Link 7's on tenor and sop, what tip open should I look for in a bari?

I have an older Buescher (1931) and it has a Brilhart ebolin mpc which I call baby thunder. It projects, rumbles and can play dynamically with a big warm thunderous tone. It resembles the sound of a Berg larsen 110
but has more depth to it. Your style of music will dictate the type of mouthpiece you should be looking for. Bueschers are warm big sounding horns and can be made to do nearly any task. Check SOTW threads on mpcs and read Paul Coats articles on mpcs. I have a Runyon Custom
#7 that works a Morgan C1 and a Rousseau 7R including the Brilhart that all work on the Buescher. I don't find that the Buescher has nearly any intonation querks in comparison to my Martin.
Good Luck and happy hunting.

Sorry I didn't even address the tip opening. You should be starting around a 90 and think more open if you think you will develop into it. I use 95 on classical and a 110/3 Berg for bigger dynamics. Again Read Paul Coats articles. I tried a Otto Link #7 metal and it sounded awfully hollow to me.

I'm playing a 333xxx Buescher Aristocrat bari (Big B) with a HR Berg 90/2 mouthpiece. I'm mainly a clarinet/bass clarinet/alto/tenor player, and that Berg seems to work fine for me. Lots of volume and projection, and controllable at pianissimo, too.

I have an early twenties Buescher Bari, and I use an Otto Link STM 7, and it really rips. I can easly keep up, volume wise, with the trombonist in my band. I like the way it sounds...[/i]
