I recently aquired a Dukoff D6 (Alto) which is in dire need of attention.
Does anyone know of somebody who specialises in Dukoffs that is based in the UK?
Many thanks!

Being in the US, Im not familiar with refacers in the UK, but, I'm quite sure that Dukoffs are easy to work on. The silverite material is a quick reface; I've had it done several times.........

Wersax, many thanks for your reply. Judging by the response to my thread, i guess there aren't any people actually specialising in Dukoffs. I'll just have to try and find a reputable mouthpiece technician (if that's the right term) who will make a good job of it.. Anybody recommend a good refacer in the U.K?

Hi Jade10!

Also being from the UK (Northern Ireland), I am unaware of any good mouthpiece techs, but thats just my opinion, I could stand corrected.

I've been toying with the idea of re-facing and for what its worth, for my money, I would send my 'pieces away to either Mojobari (www.MojoMouthpieceWork.com ) or Ed Zentera (www.saxmaniax.com/mpcreface.htm) as they get really good reviews on this forum (my apolgies to any other re-facers, this is not a reflection of your work, just happens that these two appear in threads I have read!).

I'd be tempted to bear the airfreight charges to get them to people who have worked on tons of 'pieces and have had great comments from self confessed "fussy" players.

Its just my two pennies, but I hope it helps.

Do let us know how you get on!

Jason

Jason, thanks for your input and suggestions, it's very much appreciated.
My initial thought was to contact Mojo but i thought i'd try to find out if there was anyone in the U.K who could help out.
I bought the Dukoff on ebay (perhaps a silly idea). I've never seen such poor craftsmanship. The whole thing seems to be warped. There isn't a stait line or decent curve on the thing! I know Dukoffs are renowned for not being the best made mouthpieces but this is rediculous! Surely they're not all made like this? I tend to think not, seeing as they are so popular. Perhaps i just got a real stinker.
The more i look at it, the more i think it's beyond help (i'm no expert though),I may have to count my losses and give this one up as a lost cause.
I think out of curiosity i'll travel to the nearest Dukoff stockist and check out a few, just to see how it compares.

I recently bought a dukoff for my tenor, second hand from America without seeing any pics (traded) which was stupid, but thankfully I'm happy with it.

Good luck with finding something to compare it with, although before you bin it, I think that the guys I told you about do a $10 asessment, which might tell you if they can work with it or not. May be better than binning it....?

A thought may be to phone Myatt or Dawkes. I know that Dawkes/Windcraft have a Prof Weinberg (think thats right) who makes mouthpieces, so might be off help.

Hope it turns out well in the end, I hope that you end up with something good, I know i really really love my dukoff (D4 super power chamber).

All the best

Jason

A Britt, he's relocated to Spain but I'm sure pidgeon transport shouldn't cost too much.

Ed Pillinger both makes and repairs mouthpieces. http://www.pillingermouthpieces.co.uk/

Try Ed or give Michael White's a ring and ask for Bill Wrathall. Bill is a great refacer and has worked with a lot of the UK players. He used to do the repairs at Michael White's and may still be there.
