Hi!

I have played soprano since I bought It with a crappy yamaha mpc. I mostly play classical (chamber music arrangements), but after trying a
selmer C** I realized how poor the yamaha is.

I would like to make a leap and give jazz/rock a try. After a little of research (I am certainly not a mpc expert at all!) I have an idea to get
a mpc which can be useful (if not good) in all kinds of music. I have thought of buying a Runyon Metal Spoiler #5 witch seems to be a good setup for classical music without the spoiler and a good setup for rock or jazz with the spoiler.

Any comments are welcome, Am I right?, Am I terribly mistaken?, Are
Runyon Metal spoilers good mpc´s?, is #5 a good choice?

thanks to all of you and sorry for my poor english

I would like to suggest the Runyon Quantum Metal Spoiler #7. The spoiler is an insert in the chamber that gives addition volume and brillance to the tone. You can remove it for a darker tone.

The #7 tip opening is .059" (1.5 mm), about halfway between the Selmer F and G facings. it is quite comfortable to play with reeds about 2 1/2.

I think you will find it to have a good combination of brilliance of tone, yet warm and full.

carlosdh,

I have a Yani Sop with a C*, then I switched to Metal Spoiler and it was almost like I never changed mouthpieces (as in feeling). The sound was about 5x brighter and 5x louder without the spoiler. I was using Vandoren 1.5 reeds then went to La Voz med. soft, then to Marca 2. I found that the Marcas sound the best and is not flat in my upper range. I rarely use my spoiler unless I'm performing with a big band or amped guitars. As in brightness with the spoiler, it's not a big diffrence in brightness to me.

It was a cheap MP so I got it not knowing what to expect and they have me now. I have to get one for my Tenor and Alto
