I had one-it was boring-reminded me of the Yanagasawa mpcs, played well but had no character/qualities to it

All of his pieces are dull/dead sounding.

I beg to differ. My Ponzol metal II-V-I is a very nice piece, with tons of character. From your post, I'm assuming you've playing every one of his mouthpieces?
I've only played a handful of them, but I didn't like any of them either.
BUT - we're all different. If it works for you, great! If I had a nickel for every time someone bagged on my mouthpiece of choice (Link), I'd have a great big pile of nickels.

I've played on the same Ponzol M2/110 for several years. Tried quite a few mpcs but nothing has beat the M2 so far. I have tried a M1 and II-V-I that I was not too impressed with but the M2 really works well if you're looking for a medium bright mpc with lots of body to the sound.

We all get caught up in finding the perfect piece that we think will get us over that next hump. After hearing about Benny Carter's death, an old player and retailer I know told me a story about meeting him on a Jazz cruise ship to Norway. My friend (an extremely fine player himself) had always thought BC was the epitome of the jazz saxophonist. He said Benny was gracious and sat and talked to him for quite some time. George asked him a few questions about his playing and equipment, and BC had no idea what mouthpiece he was playing. I think he would have sounded exactly like Benny Carter on a mpc carved with a pocketknife.

Yes, BC could sound like himself without a mpc! I read in an older David Murray interview that he's been using the same Berg for > 20 years. He also comments on how other players are always swapping mpcs and they suffer due to the constant change. The best approach is to find a mpc that gets out of the way when you play and then focus on the most important part... you!
