I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldnt find anything on the subject (Perhaps I'm blind, oh well). Runyon mouthpieces come in a bunch of different colors in addition to the usual black. I was wondering if those colors had any effect on the tone while playing
Thanks,
Brian

i don't think the color changes the sound. i have 2 customs for alto in the same facing. One is red the other is black. The sound and playabilty are the same. I like the red color. you can get them in red, blue black white and amber. This is the custom. Some of the other mouthpieces come in red or black only. Some in white or black only. Check the runyon web site or contact runyon for more info.

Blue is for playing the blues,
Red for Red Hot Jazz,
Gold for the Golden Oldies
play the color!

Actually, no, there is no difference in tone due to the colors. The material is the same, but the tinting agent added is a very tiny percent of the total mix.

It's not a Runyon, but I get a very clear tone from my old clear plastic Kleartone tenor mpc. Especially with a clear plastic BARI reed.

thanks for the info, I was just curious. I actualy recieved my blue Runyon Custom Jazz #9 a few days ago and I love it. Thanks to those of you who suggested using a Runyon on one of my other posts.

Then you are perfectly set up to play Blues AND Jazz!
If you had the red one, you could play Hot Jazz!
The alto Custom, when Art was still alive, was called the Art Pepper Model. So, naturally, the mouthpiece was known among players as the "Red Pepper".
