Has anyone tried a Rovner metal mouthpiece or heard anything about them? I know someone trying to sell one and I was wondering if they are any good.
Thanks.

I traded a Selmer metal Jazz C** for a Rovner Pentangle #7 which is the eqivalent of the Rovner metal Eagle, only chrome plated,a few years ago. If you want a nice lush , pretty tone this will work for you. I have used it for Blues and R&B gigs as well as quieter Jazz and ballads and it does great in all areas. Last night I was playing along with a Jimmy Forrest C.D. and was pretty much getting that nice old R&B feel. It is very responsive, with the large window design. The same guy I traded with has the Deep V LF 40 model and this seems to play a lot brighter. I preferred the Eagle style sound and chose that over the brighter one. They say Rovners play a little easier so maybe one size up would be preferable to what you are used to. I once ordered a size 9 from Woodwind/Brasswind and though the tone was similar, I would have done better with an 8.
Mine plays well with Bari reeds, Fibercells and Regular cane. I know that John Laughter uses them for both alto and tenor. He likes the brighter 40 model. He plays lots of R&R and R&B stuff. I'm sure he will chime in pretty soon. I'd give both kinds a try with Woodwind/Brasswind. It won't cost you much.
