Hi, have anyone tried both of these 2 mouthpieces for tenor?
How does each of the 2 sounds differ?

Thanks!

Sorry, have only tried the RIA. I got it from WWBW and it would not play. By this I mean that I kept switching reeds, kept changing everything around but it just wouldn't play without being airy and so stuffy that I had to push to get a sound. It LOOKED like it would be a good mouthpiece, but just didn't work. I think I got a bad one.....sorry I couldn't help. Pissed me off though.

Sounds like your reed is too hard, or maybe you were using an old reed to try the RIA.

Hi Dukoff hollywood, i have the same problem with u initally with sound being very airy, and needing a lot of pushing. I was using vandoren 2.5.
Then i switched to rico plasticcover, i can blow easily with this but, the sound is too thin and i tend to overblow with it.

I think you got a bad RIA. They do vary some. Years ago, I had WW&BW send me 3 bari sax RIAs. I kept the best and had them send me 2 more of the same facing. They were worse, so I kept my 1st keeper.

The airy RIAs have a facing curve that flips up a lot near the tip. Great for altissmo and for blowing hard all the time. But airy when you play softer.

Maybe you should be more specific with the title of this discussion. No where does it say "new" ria's vs morgan excalibur. For example vintage berg larsen vs new. Which is better? Well at least most of us know the answer to that. Apply the new vs vintage for ria's.

Hi conntenor, thanks for the reminder. understand that the new and old mouthpieces does have a difference.

Guess for me, the initial qn was the new RIA vs the MOrgan and when you brought out the vintage RIA issue, i wanted to find out more.

Thanks for clearing things,

I bought a vintage ria on ebay about 2 or 3 days ago and it was shipped yesterday from California. I bought it because I was looking for a mouthpiece with a pretty bright sound and a flexible one that could adapt to different genres of music. About the bright sound I read on here that a bright sound is good for a dull horn (which is what my conn 22m is). I had to decide between a berg a dukoff and the ria. The guy on ebay sent me clips of him playing it on his mark vi. The dukoff was too edgy. I was looking for a less edgy sound so between the berg and ria I chose the ria.

you could try getting a ria from somebody. On ebay I got a good deal; the guy was very friendly, and even sent a clip of him playing the ria. It should get here today tomorrow or the next day.

Hi conntenor...maybe i will get it much much later, cos i just ordered a Jody Jazz ESP for trial. This is supposed to be a dark piece so if i will get another mouthpiece...it will have be a bright piece.

Well i guess it won;t be in a while before i get another mpc.....no dough....:)
