Dave
Functionally is there any difference between the standard and delux models? It seems like the delux just have more engraving and a red case.
Also, it looks like all the black ones are already spoken for? Any idea when the next shipment is coming in?
Mark
Yes, same questions, what's the difference and when's the next batch of black nickel models due in?
Will you be able to have pictures of your new deluxe horns?
Ron
You have already answered the question in your thread.
I tried to erase mine but was not able to.

Teh deluxe models will be deluxe engraved, Ribbed Body Construction & include our professional mouthpiece standard. These are the differences between the deluxe and standard horns. Key layout, body tube design & everything else is identical.
Basically, they are going to be a warmer sounding horn vs. the single post design standard models.
The black models are spoken for as I ordered only a few to make sure that we were satisfied with the quality of finish.
The horns are arriving at my door some time today. I have 107 saxes coming in so I have to sort through them, we have to inventory them & then I have to find all of the new models in photograph them. So give me some time and I will be posting photos on my site as soon as I have them.

The fancy engravings make them look MUCH nicer.
I bet they will sell better than the standard version!

I agree overall. I couldnt be happier with the engraving on the lacquer and brushed models. The black I am so so on right now. We will see.
They play fantastically with the ribbed construction as well. Combine with the top model mouthpiece and we are just amazed with the horns.

Hi Dave,
how is the straight soprano compare to the Antigua 590? I've owned the Antigua before (purchased from you) and was happy with the result... I'm now looking for straight sop. and your delux model sounds great.
Thanks,
Kenny.

Kenny,
It is great. I am glad that we went with the ribbed construction on the 2 piece sopranos. This really gave them a nice richer tone in comparison to the model 1.
They play like a Selmer. My sopranos are based on a Series III design and play quite well.
Now the Deluxe models will standard include a Morgan Vintage 7 mouthpiece... which are not here yet. I should have them in a few days. The standard KCS2D models are also ribbed and play identically to the deluxe (and have the same case) and include a Morgan Pro Tone stock. These are ready to go.

My god those horns look gorgeous. The real test is how they play though and it looks like they passed! I may seriously consider saving up for an alto as my backup horn.
Dave, you say your sopranos are modeled after the Series III, are your altos and tenors also modeled after it/any other sax or is it your own design?

Man...those look very nice. You could have told me that they were a Selmer Serie III and I would have believed you...

Dave, When you say:

Did you mean the KCS2?? I thought the D meant deluxe. Sorry if I am reading into it too much. I guess the basic question is (for soprano) does the standard model also ribbed construction? So the only thing you lose is the different mouthpiece and the fancy engraving???
Thanks!!
PS - they all look AWESOME!

I'm wondering the same as Mark5047... Are you saying that the Standard soprano and the Deluxe soprano is the same, except for the fact that the Deluxe have more engraving and is also equipped with a Morgan Vintage mpc?
More question: I believe that Series III sops. go to high G, and the Standard (not sure about the Deluxe, since it's not stated) goes to F# only?
Thank you,
Kenny.
DaveKessler
05-04-2006, 05:52 PM
both the KCS2 & KCS2D feature the ribbing. only the KCS1 is not ribbed.
Kenny, yes, while the series III has a high G, we opted not to. Honestly, we dont care for high G keys and dont think they justify spending more money when it doesnt change the way the instrument plays.
We did not do a true "Copy" of the Series III but rather, and as my site reads, "features a very Selmer Series III like bore and key layout"
the alto and tenors are somewhat Series III bore and key layout inspired as well.

HEY DAVE ;
One question: Why is it that everyone else seem to be able to view the deluxe model saxes? Everytime I click to your web page and click to the "view" letters next to the horn described , no pictures come on the screen. All that comes on the screen is price imformation and there are no horn pictures. Would like to view dem deir saxofonis.
THANKS & KEEP COOL

Good question. when you clikc View, that redirects you to the individual pages for the appropriate model. For instance, on this page: http://www.kesslermusic.com/KesslerCustomSax/Deluxe/KCADBFL/KCADBFL.htm you should see my Custom logo, a tag line describing which model and then the following line:
Click the Individual Thumbnail Pictures for Full Size Versions
Directly under this line is 2 rows of 5 thumbnail pictures. They look like this:

I am able to click not only on the Kessler website, but post number 20 which has the thumbnail pictures on it are working fine. They do pop up in a different window though, so if you are using a popup blocker you will not see them until you disable the popup blocker.
Its hard to get a reading on someone over text, but in my opinion you could choose your words better and be less confrontational - and possibly get better assistance in the future;)

Im not being confrontational ,dude. If you notice the way I spelled some of the words and worded some of the text ( I mean, who the heck gets green on the face) , you can see that Im clearly joking. Anyone that knows me would tell you that it takes alot to make me loose my cool. By the time I do loose my cool, the other person probably already had a heart attack. However, people ( musicians ) do think that Im very rude when I play a solo (especially sax players) but thats a whole different story and one I dont care to oppologize to. I did however, wanted to see who would throw the first punch at me, and I guess you won buddy. Sorry if I offended any one of you fellow sax plyers out ther yonda. Even though I have more than enough saxes already , its nice to have one with a different sound and those custom originals sure look tempting. OH WELL MAYBE ILL JUST PUT MY THOUGHT ON FILE 13. Nice talking to ya MARK 5047.

ALVEGA - Its cool - like I said its hard to identify the emotion behind written words. It could be a joke, or it could be someone really angry. Hard to tell without someone standing in front of you with balled up fists and steam coming out of their ears. Hey, I am a bit of a joker myself
As for the mystery of why you cannot see the pictures - can you at least see a red X where the pictures should be? If so, that is just a setting in your browser. If you dont see anything at all that is something different.
Keep Cool (as you say!!)

TO CHILLIAD;
Thanks for the info good buddy but the problem just seem to have corrected itself. Last night I turned on the computer and tried one more time and the thumbnail pics just popped up on the screen. After I tried everything. I tried by disabling the popup blocker, like UNIBLAB advised me to do and still that didnt work. A friend of mine told me that the problem probably was due to the web browser provider. He said that he has the same provider that I have and that he has had the same problem before on a number of occasions. Anyway, I do agree, those saxes are gorgeous, as you stated. If they sound as beautiful as they look, Id sell one of my Selmers just to acquire one of those babies.

I would like to appologize to you for my smart remarks to you. When you asked me on your reply. " Can you see." I had the feeling that you were joking with me, since at the time I wasnt able to see the item you were talking about. I should have realized that a proffessional businessman as yourself wouldnt pull a joke like that at a potential costomer or at anyone else in general. I, being my ussual self reverted to joking back at you, with my smart remarks. However, in a way, I was desperatly anxious to check out those great looking saxophones that everybody was talking about. I ve gotta tell you Dave, those are some great looking saxes. I thought the original Custom Models were nice but the Deluxe Models are great looking saxes. KUDOS!!!!! DAVE!!!!!! You really hit the ball out of the park with those saxes, did a grandslam,a touchdown,a GOOOOOLLLLLLL!!!!
I really liked the black & gold tenor, the engraving really stands out. I hope that you'll still be carrying that model in the black and gold finish.Again, my appologies for smarting off to you, Dave.

I just ordered my Kessler Custom Deluxe Alto today and I'm VERY excited. Thanks to everyone on this board for the comments/recommendations. I'm about to starting playing again after a 10 year hiatus and I think this will be the perfect horn to get me moving along! I've always played Yamahas before (learned on a YAS-52, then on to 62 and eventually the 875 custom). I'm very excited to receive the horn to test it out!
Thanks also to Dave. Your customer service is just unmatched.

noplans for it. The factory is working on a new design for us (more like the Yani SC991) but if they cannot get it done right then I will be completely discontinuing the curved models. We just like the straight models better.

I'm going to trial one of Daves Custom Deluxe tenors this week. I have a P Mauriet but miss the "big" sound I got out of my The Martin for so many years. Will be interesting. If I get my webpage fixed I'll post an A/B of it and my P Mauriet. Dave is a true gem to deal with over the phone. He really cares about customer service and getting the right equipment for a player. Steve, I have the non rolled tone holes. I played BigDaddy's rolled tone hole P Mauriet tenor and it was a bigger spreader tone than mine but way dark and diffuse to my ears. His horn did play very easily like mine but it did have a delay in the tone vrs mine. Hope that answers your questions. K

First of all, let me state for the record that Dave and the guys at Kessler treat you so well you just wanna buy there. I've never experienced such good customer service. The Kessler is a good horn. The action , intonation and tone are good , especially if you factor in the price. I played it for a couple of days and trialed it against my P Mauriet. (webpage is down for revamping so the Mp3 isn't there). It is a good horn but I couldn't justify selling my P at a loss to switch over at this time. Also, what I'm finding with horns that do have a better tone at quiet to medium volumes (this is that Jupiter Artist and others I've played lately that I think are going for the Selmer tone) is that when I push to get to a normal gig volume I can't hear myself as well. The P is close in core to the Kessler but easily has twice the volume with as much effort. In fairness to the Kessler I only played it a couple of days so there might be a reed/piece combo that would make it work but I'm leaving on vaca for a week and want to wrap this up in fairness to Dave and get him the horn back. So, if I was playing here at home or in med volume settings or just thinking in terms of a recording horn this is a very good option for the price. To wrap this up, I have no business relationship with Dave other than I bought a couple of mouthpieces from him a year ago and he was kind enough to let Cash and I play every nice horn in his shop 16 months ago and boy was I close to picking up that Ref 54. Anyway, Dave is honest and more than willing to help educate me and other as to whats out there and how its worked for other performers. K

Keith,
Nice report. Dave and his family run operation are a class act!
I succumbed to the 54itus about 2 years ago in his shop. Sold a couple of horns at the time to offset the cost but I get more and more happy each time I play my 54 alto.
I'm afraid if If I visit the store again I may catch that tenor disease known as 36itus and I just don't have the funds to cure the infliction at this time.:( ;)
