Congratulations!!!!

Have you checked out Wade Walker's c-melody forum? If not, here's a link -- http://home1.gte.net/wwalker/cmelody.htm You'll find a lot of good information about everything related to the c-melody.

Good luck with your horn!

Tootles,

How's your c-mel working out for you? Hey, guess what? I'm trading my Conn c-melody for a Buescher! I'll let you know how it works out for me on the new horn.

The 1923 Buescher c-melody arrived yesterday and I gave it a good work out. It's in BEAUTIFUL condition and it has an absolutely great sound. Seriously strong sound! But, in checking it against a tuner I found that it's intonation is problematic on a number of notes. In particular, open C# is WAY FLAT. Using a low C# alternate fingering didn't help that much.

The Buescher's intonation is NOT has bad as it originally was on my early model Conn. Never the less, I'm very surprised that the intonation is not better. After all, I tried a Buescher stencial c-melody a few months ago and was very impressed with it's intonation.

Thus, I found myself feeling really down! I had been looking forward to trying out this horn and, hopefully, keeping it. After all, I'm such a big fan of vintage Bueschers.

But, there might be hope after all! After spending time with both the Buescher and my Conn it occurred to me to talk with the repair tech I've started using. This guy is really good. I described the problems I've been having lately with my Conn and asked him if he could work on the horn's neck. In particular, to raise it's angle so that it's similar to what I'm used to with my Buescher horns. I'm thinking that this might be a big help to my with the physical problems I've had playing the c-mel. He said that he could. So, I'm taking my c-mel to him today after work. I'll show him how I'm holding the c-mel and we'll talk it through. I'll also see if he can do some tweeking on the horn's sound and keywork response. If he's able to fix these things, the old Conn just might have a renewed life!

I'll let you know how it works out.

Roger, that wouldn't happen to be the C Mel. that was on Junkman's site would it? If it was, that was a very gorgeous horn. I was eyeing it myself, but I've got to get some basic stuff before going into C Mel-land.

Kenfen

Yes, it is. I hope someone will take this c-melody in and make it work for them. It has a FANTASTIC sound. It wails!!! And, it's in mint condition. It was a great experience to play this horn.

Please understand that I'm not wanting to scare off anyone from getting this c-melody. The intonation things I found are only on a few notes -- nothing like the REALLY SERIOUS problems I originally had with my Conn. This has something that a good vintage saxophone repair tech should be able to correct. It's just that I already went to a lot of effort to get the intonation fixed on my Conn and I don't feel up for repeating it right now on another horn.

So you're sending it back to the fold? It sure is pretty. I'd go for it, but I have needs in other areas right now. Like getting either a backup Tenor or a Sop.

But, if I were all set, I'd get that C Mel. I'm sure the intonation thing could be resolved as you say with just tweaking it a bit.

Roger,
What are you asking for the CMelody?

The c-melody is being sent back to Junkdude (Dave Hoskins).

Believe me, the pictures on Dave's web site don't do justice to just how beautiful this horn is. The way the horn FEELS is even more incredible. Man, I'm starting to freak out about sending it back! But, I've got too much energy invested in my Conn. I also found that I'm partial to the brighter c-melody sound of the Conn. It's more of a unique c-melody sound. The Buescher sounds closer to a tenor. I figure that if I want a tenor sound I'll simply pick up my Buescher tenor and let it rip!

Perfect Pitch - The seller says it's in Bb - does anyone know whether the minimal 'tenor' Buescher Academy was in Bb or C ? Certainly the 'minimal' Matin Home model was in C.

OK for a flute player doubling, maybe - I'd go crazy without palm or side keys....
