Well, let's start off with what you play on right now. Then, we can help you.

Yes and how about skill level and desired tone quality?

as of now I am playing on the selmer stock mouthpiece a selmer C*. I'm looking for a brighter tone and I like to think of myself as being a 5 or 6, on a scale of 1-10, on how well I play the sax

If you want a brighter tone, do not get a Link.

agreed. get something like a dukoff, berg, or, if you want to go cheap, get a lakey. Links tend to be kinda pillowy sounding, unless you get a florida link, which has better overtones than the modern ones.

I'd say go with the link. Even get a hard rubber. Maybe try up to a 6*. From there, try to get a brighter sound with a Vandoren Java reed or the good ol' rico. Make sure that you do not bite down on only a little of the mouthpiece. Due to the wider tip opening you may find yourself cheating after playing for a bit. Try lotsa links 'cause they're inconsistent - but rest assured, they're a great mouthpiece.

Are you looking for bright or just brighter the the c*? Rubber or metal. My 2 cents: stick with rubber unless you want bright. I'm not wild about Links on alto but you might try a Morgan or Meyer, medium chambers around a 6.

Who knows if the Vandoren's Optimum Ligature can fit a Metal Link?

What Ligature work best for you Metal Link?

What sound it will be by using Metal Link with Java reed (or other bright reed like SJ) ?
