My friend give me a tenor #5 free STM Metal Link, but it's too small and sounds too dark & stuffy.
I would like to know if I send it to Mouthpiece Heaven or Mojo Bari, can they help me to enlarge it to 7* + make other modification work? (I just worry it's too small, unable make it to 7*).

I recently had Ralph Morgan reface a Florida 4* STM for me. He did a fantastic job! It is now a 6*, he cut the tip and reworked the baffle, tip and rails. Plays very well from top to bottom, not too bright, not too dark.

Yes, you can.
If the beak becomes near the thin side, I use the butt-cutt method to open it - this way you change the lay schedule by cutting the table at a sharper angle. You can actually open a piece without touching the tip area this way, providing the tip area is right and the rails are symmetric and providing you know how to fix the table via a butt cut.

Johannes,
I'm just getting started on refacing and am very interested in the "Butt-Cut" method. Is it simply a matter of devoting more time to angle the table on the sandpaper and glass plate, then reface, or is it more detailed than that?
Thanks

I've waited ages before responding, but I have some photos here of the butt cutt job. Will be away for a week, will soon add it at www.jgerber.com/refacing.htm
Best to you all

I have never refaced a piece... this looks like mighty scary work
