This is their website

I'm curious about personal experience, impressions, etc.

Thanks

I looked at a demo at the Toronto Music Expo. First question I asked was about transpositions - wanted to be able to toggle between concert and transposed score. The guy said it couldn't do that. I walked away. Might be worth seeing if they're developing it...

I've had a few chances to play the program and I must say it's pretty amazing. The sounds are pretty darn incredible. I'm not a very big fan of notation programs since I have such a hard time getting them to do what I want but, I'd say this one is the easiest one by far (at least between Finale and Sibelius). I've seen guys who really have put some time into and know Finale just jammin through, entering notes and that's amazing but I was able to do that with the Notion program after only like 2 minutes with it. It's pretty genius how they set up the computer keyboard for entering things. 'Q' is for Quarter note, 'W' is for Whole note, 'E' is for Eight note etc. Basically, if you know how to type then you got the basic keyboard commands down. Your left hand stays in the "home" typing position and your right hand on the mouse. I'm definitely going to get it but only after they release the saxophone sounds. My friend said the sounds are already recorded (London Symphony Orchestra?) but they haven't put them out yet.

I've had about 15 years experience with Finale, presently using Finale 2005, also use Band in a Box and Cakewalk quite a bit. If you have any questions contact me.

Sibelius Software... I've been using my old Rhapsody (1995) for the past 10 years until I could find the right piece of software. I just bought Sibelius software and it is amazing! There is a learning curve to any piece of software but this one is quick to learn and is worth it.

It's fast, convenient, and beautiful. Pat Metheny, the late Ray Charles, the Hal Leonard Company and more give their testimonials to how great it is. Alf Clauson, the composer for the Simposons uses it. It can be used for composition, real time scoring, scan in music, simple part transposition and part extraction, automatic arranging, midi composition, anything.

It costs a pretty penny but again, it's worth it. I have had it for less than a week and with my busy schedule with school and work, I have already put together 10 quartet pieces.

I have not had any experience with Notion but have to agree with acglass about Sibelius. I was a long time Finale user and when I tried Sibelius 2 I switched 75% of my work to Sibelis. With Sibelius 4 I am no longer using Fianle at all. Easy to use, beautiful looking results.

NOTION had a dispay set up in my school's music building for a day back in April. The playback is great, but the program still has several flaws. I would give it a couple of years for them to update and upgrade the software before actually considering it. If they develop it some more, it will likely become a very good alternative to Finale and Sibelius, and will likely give them a run for their money.

You'll have better luck posting in the sheet music section.

I use Sibelius, and I just bought Notion. I haven't opened the box yet, but here is why I bought it: It is Sibelius compatible! - So if you would like to hear your scores played by the LSO in a beautiful manner - Owning Notion is the way to go. I was told by some good composers that Notion isn't up to Finale or Sibelius' quality if you are going to put printed music in front of a band/orchestra. But the samples are absolutely gorgeous, and all the dyanmics are read brilliantly. I also us a Mac w/ Digital Performer, Giga studio, Quantum Leap Orchestra Gold, and Gary Garitan's "Big Band". When I want sax input I play it myself. I haven't heard a decent sax sample yet. I just completed film scoring school, and what is taught there is this: Hire a saxophonist if you are serious about your recording - write your music with a player in mind because saxophone is the most individualized instrument there is. PS. Love the Snauzer, I have one myself!

I had never heard of Notion until 2 days ago when I walked out of a gig on Elm St. in Greensboro and walked literally 10 feet and there it was, right next door! Just wanted to share that little coincidence.
