I had my daughter's SX-90 tenor case improved by added crush velvet felt to certain areas at Ed's cases(sax moved to much in case). He also added some foam to my baritone(super 80 series I) case to compensate for wear(baritone would shift position in case). Ed does excellent work and is priced reasonablely. He is in the Norristown,PA area. PHONE: (610) 279-5817 I highly recommend him!!!!!

Does he refurb shabby/smelly/rattly old cases? Or is he strictly in the padding-adding biz?

About 20 years ago, Ed made me a special three-horn case for straight soprano, curved alto, and clarinet. I still have it.

I finally went back to separate cases for the ease of handling them all at once (the multi-horn case was just too heavy and required a luggage cart for schlepping around the Sacramento Jazz festival, as an example).

Point is that Ed did a wonderful job in designing and making this case for me. DAVE

I've got some business for a case re-upholsterer, if there is such a thing.

Dave, I too am interested in getting a couple of old cases refurbished.....do you think Ed will do this?

Also, on your custom case, what kind of materials did he use and can you give a ballpark figure on cost?

Thanks!

Sounds like somebody better call up Ed and let him know a mountain of funky-smelling old saxophone cases is on the way. ;)

Randall: I never met the guy - we talked by phone and wrote letters (no e-mail then).

I haven't been in touch with Ed's Cases in years. I used to see his advertisements in SAXOPHONE JOURNAL but it has been a while since he's placed ads there. I was glad to see this thread after all these years - good to know he's still going strong.

He made my combo-case out of plywood covered in black vinyl. I don't recall the interior now; it is stored up in my attic. I recall paying him under $200.00 for the job - but like I said that was 20 years ago. DAVE

So has anyone talked to Ed about refurbishing old ratty smelly cases? Any info to pass along?

I guess it depends on how old, smelly, ratty...

He put new handles on a 15 year old Selmer Tray Pack case (holds alto sax, clarinet and flute) for $38. Now it's like new.

He added some padding last spring to my Keilwerth Black Nickel SX-90 tenor case on the end plug end of case so sax did not move around as much in case and fixed my daughter's keilwerth SX-90 tenor cases compartment lid that was loose. I also bought a tenor neck sock(caravella I believe) from him. This is the 2nd time I dealt w/ Ed. He is Awesome!!!!
