I just purchased a HOHNER "PRESIDENT" which will arrive here on monday. I have been looking for info on these horns and cannot seem to find more than a passing reference as a side note on info about his brothers or histories on the german music industry.
Does anybody out there play one of these?

The Hohner President is a German saxophone produced by Max Keilwerth, the brother of Julius Keilwerth. It was built between 1948 and 1967 for the company Matthias Hohner in Trossingen/Germany. Great instruments. Very simular to JKs.

So far so good. The horn arrived in good playing shape. Slapped a lavoz medium (bass clarinet reed) on the Dukoff D9 that came with it and got a pleasant suprise - good intonation and even response Bb to F. I am sending it to the shop for some minor adjustments, but could leave it as is.
It is a very nice horn with G# and D trill keys but a non-articulated G#. The front F has a good voice, not noticeably different from the side F. I am primarily an alto player so my knowledge of tenor alt fingerings is limited, but with a fingering chart in front of me the altissimo spoke quite easily and well in tune.
I am waiting for a Selmer D from a friend of mine to see if that might be more appropriate for teaching. I cannot in all fairness compare it to other tenors I have played (MK VI with 7*STM NY link, the martin with selmer H) (borrowed from good friends) as the dukoff is something else, but I am happy with the horn and look forward to many years with it.
