A very good instrument, the equal of a Mark VI Selmer in many ways and some people prefer them. They are very well made, have good keywork and a sweet sound. Favoured by classical players, but like any good sax, will work in different settings. They sell for about $1500-2000 US dollars on eBay depending on condition.

A lot of people have this idea that any time another sax is compared to the Mark VI it means that VI is the gold standard or something. What it means is simply that the MK VI is a horn that gets so much press that everyone in the sax busines knows its characteristics, whether real or imagined.

I have four wonderful Buffet altos, ranging from an Apogee to a current Prestige and including a mint S1, and for me they are all better than every MKVI I've played. They are way undervalued. So thanks all you MKVI worshippers for keeping Buffet prices reasonable.[/quote]
