Any one play the cescent? Iwas thinking about getting one. I play a Mark VI tenor and new 7*NY Link (which I like very much more than the non NY links). I was thinking about tryng this one, the Gonz1 pure copper (what does th copper do to the sound?), and maybe a 6*NY link. What sound are you goning for and what 3 links would you try?

I believe that Greg Vail (saxboy on SOTW) posted that he uses a modified Guardala Crescent. You can hear samples of his playing on his website www.gregvail.com You might even hear some his playing on your local smooth jazz station.

I have been playing a slightly modified Crescent for about 10 years now. It is a nice move for anyone wanting a more traditional sound or already playing a link or dukoff with small to no baffle.
I play pretty bright and it was the only Guardala that worked for me. There was a Sugal that came in a close second but I don't remember which one it was after all the years.
I have advised 2 guys toward this piece and 1 loved it, one ended up selling it after a while.

Don't know if this helps much...

Ive played the Guardala Crescent for about a year and a half now. I absolutely love it. I've found that its very similar to the other guardala pieces, except it has this mellowness that never goes away(which i love). Subtones are better than ive had on any other mouthpiece, and altissimo is decent. It can definetely crank the volume out if you need it too.

Overall, if you like a modern sound thats still pretty dark and mellow, the Crescent if definetely something worth looking into.

I've been playing my new Guardala Cresent on my MVI or about 2 weeks now. I like it very much and have decided to keep it. The sound has more dimenions to it than a link. So far I have to gaurd against not sounding thin on high D to F#. I'm still going through reeds to try to find the right ones for me. I orderded the selmer 404 lig and that seems to be just a bit too big so today I ordered the 402.

Whay reeds/lig do those of you on the cescent use?

peace

Sabritas has it right, I found the Crescent a little thin and too focused. I tried a Sugal JB1 that I fluked into for a 3rd of the price and it can cut but also fill a room. It has a bigger/ broader sound and can be very edgy almost raw if you want. The finish is not close to the Crescent but who cares about looks.
