View Full Version : Lower Prices on LA-750 & LA-850?

It seems that LA SAX publishes a lower MSRP for the 750 and 850 on their site now. For at least a week, Giardinelli and Musiciansfriend have been selling them for $899 and $999 respectively. I thought they were going to stop making these, but their website still lists them under the Series I horns.
In a moment of failure to control my impulses, I ordered a Kamelion tenor because I always wanted one of those. :D It should be here tomorrow.
I have their black alto and it is my "worhorse" sax. It takes some air power to make the instrument resonate well though. For me everything else is perfect on this sax, good intonation, fast keywork, etc. Does the neck/body have too much inertia? Is this the experience of others?
I have an RPC 110 mouthpiece to try on the tenor and if that does not make it purr, nothing does.

According to the orpheusmusic.com (http://www.orpheusmusic.com) website, they've come out with a new Series II leaving the 650/750/850 as Series I models. And the Goodson model is now listed on their site which might have something to do with price changes you mentioned.

Hmm, the Series II models are a lower cost version of the Series I saxes. They are cheaper and have lower model numbers, e.g. LA-825 instead of LA-850. Also, they don't come with the sturdy hard shell case, but in a soft back pack. I don't understand why. Actually, I hope that Giardinelli/Musiciansfriend are selling the Series I, and not the Series II instruments. We will see tomorrow.

I agree with you, Pannonia. It seemed odd to me that they would keep the higher priced and presumably better quality models as Series I and use Series II for the lower tiered models. And they refer to Series I as the "Pro" models. I think Series II replaced the Vespro name, which must not have been selling well.

Please forgive me, but I have not been able to find what these look like. I see them advertised, but not with pics. Pictures or description anywhere?? Thanks!

So the tenor sax arrived. I checked with a leak light and both E and F got significant leaks, but I am not surprised at that. Otherwise the keys are nicely set up. The Kamelion color scheme is really wicked. It seems to go between purple and green depending on how the light shines on it. The keys are gold not silver as it seemed on the pictures. Woohoo!!!

This tenor is going back. I was comparing it with the black alto I got last year and this tenor has a lot of flaws in the finish besides the leaky pads.

Wow - sorry to hear that. The black alto you got last year was also supposed to be a 'demo' if I remember correctly - and the tenor you just received was supposed to be 'new' - correct?
Sorry to hear about that, but I dont blame you for returning it. Part of the allure of the LA Sax line is the finish.
You going to ask for a different one?

I requested a refund. I am very happy with the alto though. This afternoon I bought a 1941 Conn 10M that was just freshly rebuilt. It is not the prettiest instrument, but it is everything I have been looking after in a tenor sax. (had to stretch the budget a good bit though)

Gotta love a story with a happy ending.

Yes. All I have to figure out now is how to pay off my credit cards. :(I can relate. Plastic never felt so heavy. Enjoy your "new" 10M and try not to think about the plastic burden. As sales "associates" like to say, "You deserve it."
