has anyone ever played amati's pro line of horns? http://www.amati.cz/english/production/instruments/Files/aas/aas_83T.htm and there http://www.amati.cz/english/production/instruments/Files/aas/aas_83P.htm i kinda wanna know if there any good...if they'd be a good idea to spend around 1,500 dollars on to get as the sax to last me through and after college, or if other brands like selmer or yamaha are better. (i've never actually seen the pro line horns sold in america, but i've seen them on sites for european countrys). Also any opinion in general is appreciated.

I believe WWBW carries Amati's "pro" line of horns. I have virtually zero experience with this line, so I'm afraid I can't offer an opinion on them. Hopefully others will be of help to you. Best of luck.
Haven't played the Amatis but have heard that they are much improved from the iron curtain days when the factory was government owned.

Look at the two posts in this section regarding the 73PQ horns. These are the pro horns WWBW sells. The post about the alto has a great review in a head-to-head with Yamahas. I'd like to try one, but haven't as yet.
The two Amati altos I've owned have both had EXCELLENT intonation.

When speaking of Amati's Alto's, the 73PQ's are thier performance model.

The saxes i'm refering to are the Professional models wich you'll see under the previous link. I personally wanna find out about these because i hear amazing things about all amati sax's, and i love my student model amati. aas32.

Those are all of the amati alto sax's on wwbw.

Ah, I see. I wish I could be of more help. As I mentioned before I've had very good luck with the student horns as well. I too have an AAS32 that I occasionally pull out of the closet, it's really a good horn.
I too would be very interested to hear more about those horns, please keep us posted if you do come across any additional info!

I e-mailed Graham's Music (their website has quite a bit of Amati info and a factory tour section) about availability in the US. He replied that they are indeed available here. He didn't specifically mention that he has them, but that's what I drew from his e-mail. Anyway, visit their website, maybe some e-mails or a phone call can give you a little more insight into the 83 series.

I've also sent an e-mail to the US distributor, but no word yet.

'933 you might look at WWBW's allora or Chicago Jazz models. They're right at 15 bones and super nice pro saxes.

I wouldn't advise purchasing one of these to go into a situation where you are going to study saxophone in college. This is not to say they aren't great horns. Most college instructors will probably steer you to play on a Selmer or Yamaha (though some schools of teaching will point you towards vintage horns), and life will be easier if you go with the flow. If you are looking for something in that price range, I'd suggest looking at used Yamahas (62, Custom), or Selmer Mark VIIs (not VI due to your price range).

Hey Michael, thanks for noticing! Wales is a country near and dear to my heart!
I think Alan makes a good point about brands. If you are going to study sax you might hang loose and see what your prof has to say. On the other hand if you're not going to be a saxophone major, get what pleases you the most! I think its cool that you're inquiring about something different and unique, just make sure it plays great!
Please keep us posted on your findings!

Hey Amati forum,
I still like my Alto 73PQ. I try to play it almost every day. Check out my post. And as far as the pro tenors are concerned ... that's an itch I really want to scratch.
I'm really glad that I bought the 73PQ alto.. I could have spent more as I had the money.. but I'm glad that I didn't.

Forum Friends,
RAT29 has one of the 83P tenors.. He is in France and will answer your questions. I called the Amati distributor (see the Amati website for the number) in Maryland (I think). He said that they did bring them into the US.
But ... he spoke very quickly and with a heavy accent, so I'm not totally convinced. Yes, I also e-mailed him with no responce.
Check RAT29 's post. I has the european dealer's name (Sonnehiem SP??) and they WILL answer your e-mails. Just hit 'um on Google for the website. They also told me that they would ship to the USA. If my Dollar to Euro rate calculator worked correctly, it was between $1600 to $1800 USD at that time.
There's a lot of very good saxophones. I have very little brand aligence, with the exception of that I want pro level or as close to pro level as I can afford.
My tenor is a 1950 Conn 10M in excellent condition. It will take a LOT to get me to let it go... But stranger things have happened.
Good Luck..

for amati guys: there are 3 stores run by factory in the Czech (kraslice, Prague, Brno, addresses can be found at http://www.amati.cz/cesky/prodej.htm under section 'podnikove prodejny') if you have chance to stop by (I guess many guys are going to Prague for visit these days), they have a huge selection of horns and very good prices. It's better to contact them in advance to get ready some horns you can pick from.
