Just want to file a little report here on my new BG France harness.

I've got a heavy alto that was killin' my neck. Switched over to the harness and I'm a happy camper.

The harness is thoroughly comfortable. It distributes the horn's weight very nicely. Also, the plastic-covered metal hook seems unbreakable and unbendable under normal use.

Extra-added benefit: The bow of the sax can be rested against my body, which takes a lot of weight off my right thumb.

So, if you're wondering what to do about that boat anchor around your neck, consider wearing a harness.

Cheers...

P.S.: If you're concerned about how the harness looks (which I'm not), you could easily wear it under a shirt and let the hook poke out between your shirt buttons. Voila!: Nearly invisible support!

Also try a sling made by spinstraps and neotech looks good AND takes the weight from your neck and puts it on the shoulder.

I have painful neck/shoulder probs from playing so many years. Anyone know of a harness which counterbalances the weight of the horn on to the small of the back.?

The freeneck harness has two metal rods that go down the length of the back before connecting to a belt. It doesn't put the weight to the small of your back, but distributes it more evenly across your entire back. I have one and I'm a big fan.

I've come to the conclusion (with the help on my physio) that alot of the problems I have are to do with how I carry the case - and the amount I stick into it (normally a tenor with a soprano attached and a laptop bag in my right arm) so yes the harnesses do help but pay attention to how you carry the sax around 2!!
