Hi everyone,
I have an original 70 MKVI tenor, with original Selmer case.
What exactly came with this horn from Selmer in so far as clarinet and flute that fits the inside case compartments.
What model of clarinet?..What model flute?
Are they easily found?
were they optional or did they all come in this tri-pak compartment with newly bought horn?
Thx

??max, the horn didn't come with a flute or clarinet. The case is called a 'trey-pack" and it is for the pro musician who usually has to double on those instruments.
Most any brand should fit in the clarinet case and flute insert.

Max, I bought a '59 Mark vi tenor and a '60 Mark vi alto, both with this case. You could specify if you wanted the empty clarinet case. My Selmer centered tone fit perfectly. The flute case did not come included. My Armstrong #102 flute, which has a case with no handles, fits in the springy brackets. My earlier balanced action from about 1953 had the flute case integral to the top of the alto case!!

Only a C-foot flute will fit in the ones with a flute nest. There were many variations. The early ones had a removeable clarinet case and the flute had springed knobs on the lid to hold it. The Vangaurd had a seperate case for the clarinet and under that, nesting for a flute (C-foot). The Chesterfield (zipper model) had a nest on the right for the clarinet and clamps on the lid for the flute case (not supplied). All of these came in various coverings mostly black or brown with the early ones in tweed. I have an old Selmer case from 1933 that holds a Tenor, Clarinet, Oboe, Bass Clarinet and Soprano (I think that is correct). The thing must have been really heavy with the horns inside! Back then, bands traveled on the train and it made shipping easier.
I used the trey-pak for years but it is just plain HEAVY and I now use a Pro-tec. No one seems to use clarinet anymore which is bad for me as that is my main double.
