Lee Konitz with Dennis Irwin (b) and Matt Wilson (d) played a wonderful hour and a half set at the Regatta Bar in Cambridge MA last night.
Sticking to his normal set of standard tunes, Konitz wove a lifetimes worth of fresh new ideas into each solo. The group interaction was telepathic with Konitz and Irwin compleating each others phrases and Wilson's constant invention in both support and solo roles. Lee Konitz once again proved he is the true modern master of the alto.
(I want to be playing that well in my seventies!)
For gearheads Lee was playing a Series II alto with a Vandoren mpc and optimum lig.
