I play a Hite Premier tenor mouthpiece on clarinet and like it a lot. Does anyone use the Hite Premier on Tenor? How do you like it?

I've never played a Premier, but do have a Hite Artist tenor peice. It's an excellent mouthpiece, and Hite says the finish work is the same on both. Only difference, as I understand, is the material (Artist is hard rubber, Premier is a synthetic, like your clarinet mouthpiece), and the tip opening is .090 on the Premier, .095 on the Artist. The Hite tenor mouthpieces are very well designed and well finished. If you like your clarniet Premier odds are strong you'll also like the tenor Premier.

Among plastic mouthpieces, the J. D. Hite Premier is the best. Good for students and good enough for pros. IMHO.

Hey, I just also ordered a Hite Premier Tenor mpc...JUST starting to learn to play and the mouthpiece that came on my very budget minded Kohlert 460 seems like a piece of crap to me...hoping this is a decent 'step up' mouthpiece for a beginner....your opinions on this are very appreciated, and any recommendations for other possible good beginner mouthpieces in the very low cost range would be great too, or reed choice..right now using VD JAVA have a few #2 and a few #2-1/2..2s seem a lot easier for me at the moment on the 'stock' mpc...thanks guys...really loving this site.

They were better before the name was sold. I belive they were hand faced...or at least hand finished before that.

So, I've been playing a Hite Premier Tenor Mouthpiece for, god, it must be 8 years now? I've always liked it. I have a rousseu jazz mouthpiece as well, that is certainly much louder, but without the clarity in tone that I get from the Premier. I actually got the Hite in high school and chose it over a Selmer C*. Anyway, I won the Oregon State classical high school solo contest playing on the Premier. I remember my music wasn't as technically difficult as other competitors, but my tone and control were what got me the win. I'm sure this solid mouthpiece helped me. For a beginner I think I would recommend it every time.

I love the Hite Premier on clarinet. It plays like a dream. For someone like me that double on clarinet once in a blue moon, the Hite is a great way to go.
But for straight and beginning tenor sax, I'd go with a Selmer S80 with the "D" tip. It's very versatile and you can't beat the tone.

The Hite Premier is a good choice for what you're looking for, Chris.

I play a Hite Premier on alto, and a hard rubber Hite on tenor. They are both very well-designed mouthpieces. I have found that Fibracell reeds work well on them.
